The Search For The Dead Author

The search for Zora Neale Hurston was taken on by Walker with the accompaniment of her friend Charlotte. they both greatly appreciated the works of zora Neale hurston and thought to figure out what really happened to her and give her the proper brurial. in order to get more information out of people, she tells them she is Hurston's niece. She comes across many different acquaintances of Hurston and each person she meets gives her more information, thus extending the adventures of her quest. Some false information was given to her and Charlotte that upset them. like the fact that she died of malnutrition and it was a very poor and bad burial, but in the end they found out that she died of a stroke and she was very loved by her community. while trying to figure out the background and history of Hurston she starts believing that she really is related to Hurston. By hearing all of the views of the community that Hurston grew up with, Walker starts agreeing with what she thought Hurston would've sided with. So really she starts realizing her culture and heritage through the discoveries of Zora Neale Hurston's life.

Janies Life

Laying under a verdant tree,
thats where youll find the lovely janie.
Reflecting on life in her many ways,
janie tries to find love in what seems like a desperate place.
looking off into the horizon is where she sees her dreams,
but being crushed by men is always what it seems.
Married twice and still no love,
Janie's love life is like a glove.
she has the catch of the town
 but is always feeling down.
At the death of her husband might be a gleam,
of light, that proves.
maybe this life is more than it seems?

the year of questions and answers

"There are years that ask questions and years that answer."  Write a speculative response on what the upocoming year will hold for Janie.  Will this eyar be the year that asks questions or one that answers them?  Will this be the year that does both?  Respond to at least three peers.

In Janies flashback, this is the year that she has asked and questioned herself about marraige and love, like the way she thinks love will begin to happen after she marries logan, but too bad it didnt. then one day she met a man by the name of Joe Starks and continued meeting him and then one day she built yp the courage and ran off, left logan and married Joe. The upcoming year is going to answer all of her questions, but then it might spark up a few more. This upcoming year is going to be very interesting for the newly wedded Mrs. Janie Starks.

Hidden feelings in marriage... its totally normal!

I believe that its totally okay and perfectly fine to hide feelings from the person you marry. Not everything has to be said or shown. Yes, it would be great to have an open relationship, but having a relationship that is too open might not be good. If a guy would tell me every little thing he was feeling i would get annoyed really quick and everything he would do or say would just bother me. Or when a man upsets a women, a women should tell him how it makes her feel, but only if it gets to a certain extent. If she constantly nags and complains about every single little thing I'm pretty sure the man would get annoyed. It goes both ways, if you talk about every single one of your feelings amongst each other it would probably get annoying for both the guy and the girl and before you know it, the marriage would be over.

Gatsby Questions

why does Gatsby take so long to talk to and communicate with Nick?
Why does Tom treat myrtle so badly when she mentions Daisy's name?
Why must Tom cheat on Daisy?
Why does Gatsby take so long to try and communicate with Daisy?
Does Nick really love Jordan, and if so, whats going on with his lady back home?

Fitzgerald a Poet In Disguise

"And, after boasting this way of my tolerance,
I come to the admission that it has a limit.
Conduct may be founded on the hard rock or the wet marshes,
but after a certain point I don’t care what it’s founded on.
When I came back from the East last autumn
I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform
and at a sort of moral attention forever;
I wanted no more riotous excursions
with privileged glimpses into the human heart. Only Gatsby,
the man who gives his name to this book,
was exempt from my reaction — Gatsby,
who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn."

Having A Degree Is the Way To Be

I believe that we live in a world where, if you have and education you are more socially accepted. Most everyone tends to listen to a person who has a college degree rather than someone who has just a GED. People who normally have a college degree often have the upper hand in business and job rankings. Having a college degree normally ups your chances for the opportunity of you getting accepted for a job over someone who does not. People who have college degrees are normally bosses or CEOs or presidents of companies or organizations therefore giving them superiorityI'm not saying that people without a college degree aren't accepted, but they are not as influential or easily accepted like a person with a college degree would be. Knowing that someone has a college degree makes you think that they should know more than the average person, sort of like they know what they are doing. An example is like when you need help with your homework, you can ask a friend or upperclassman for help and see how they would solve the problem but then you ask a teacher and they tell you a different way. Chances are you are going to solve the problem the way the teacher explained it to you, simply because you know that they have a college degree. knowing that they have a college degree, people tend to assume that the person with the degree knows more, or at least that they know what they are doing compared to a person without one. So yes in a world like ours, people with a college degree are more socially accepted.

never ever judge a book by its cover

yes i do believe that outward appearances are deceptive. Just because a person looks a certain way doesn't necessarily mean they act or fit the role they are trying to portray.  An example of this in our life is seeing a good girl who is really preserved and quiet at school ending up getting pregnant. she may set out to the have an appearance of a really good school girl, but in reality she is not. she is a complete party animal who loves living life to the fullest. Another example can be of a kid who looks super nerdy and acts like they know it all but in reality they're just an average kid who tends to slack just like everybody else. I know a kid who dresses all thug nasty and affiliates himself with all the delinquent students of the school but he is actually one of the smartest kids in the school. We are too concerned with our outer appearance because many people try to fit into society by going to extremes and changing their appearance or behavior to adapt and be in what they consider is the "in crowd". But that just goes to show to never judge a book by its cover. you will never really know who someone is off their looks, because the looks of a person may not always go with their personality.

what we value in america can be both empty and substantial. We as Americans value our electronics very much! which most of you would agree. our cell phones are one of the biggest things we most definitely value. to some people it may be considered as empty but if you really look at it, it connects us with the ones we love. so in a way it can be substantial. other items that are considered empty are like name brand clothing and big name car dealers. The things that are substantial in life are family, friends, and food.

Honestly speaking, my significant others looks and financial standings would not play a huge role, but i mean it will still concern me a bit. I'm not trying to sound snobby but it would be nice if my significant other had a nice and good appearance, but if they don't its still completely fine with me. Money wise, it does not matter. if it is for someone who i truly love i will support them for as long as i possibly can as long as they're putting in the effort as well.

Assimilation

The definition of assimilate is to take in, sort of like to adjust, whether it be to their surroundings or cultures. its to merge smaller groups into one large group. To adopt things from a different country, one which you may have not been born in.  for example, a mexican family has a kid and then moves to the united states. the kid would assimilate to the american ways of living by learning english and american traditions.

in the play it seems like Beneatha worries about assimilation. she does her hair to try to make sure she looks like the others, and wants to learn to play the guitar and at one point she even joined a horseback riding club. Beneatha is trying to accomplish a whole lot in life and to her family it seems ridiculous but i think its great. Beneatha is accomplishing more than anyone else in her family has and she has more skills, which i see as a strength. but beneatha isn't the only one committing assimilation. assimilation is all around us.

everywhere i go i see assimilation. especially at school. i see a bunch of mexicans trying to assimilate to the american lifestyle. they seem to leave behind their mexican lifestyle to adapt and make the transition to america much easier. i know some hispanics who dont know any spanish at all, which is assimilation because theyre parents may know spanish but they do not. i would be guilty of being one of these hispanics. my parents were born in the US but my grandparents werent, they came from mexico. but growing up, my parents taught me no other way than the american way.

Luis view of assimilation was that in a way its beneficial and a way its bad. but in the end he describes america as not being the white america as it used to be. that being white doesnt really mean being white because so many different people have assimilated to the american lifestyle.

Family and Individual Desires, Both Seen As One in My Eyes

In all honestly the importance of my own individual desires and my family do not differ. Both my family and my own desires are extremely important to me. In a way they both kind of reflect off of each other. My own individual desires of going to college, continuing to play softball in college, graduate college, becoming a physical therapist, then sometime along the way find the love of my life and start a happy family, is just as important as my family. My individual desires were inspired by my family, and all i want to do is make them proud. They play a huge role in my life. Without them i seriously don't know where or what i'd be doing right now. I thank god for giving me this wonderful family that i have. I'm truly blessed. They encourage and support me in everything and anything i do and i'm so grateful for that. That's why its so important for me to go off and be the first one in my family to go to college. To make something of myself, so that i can grow and support my own family as well as trying to payback my family for everything they've done for me. To be successful and make my family as proud as they can possibly be is also apart of my individual desires. So right there you can kind of see where they reflect off of each other, because my family influences my individual desires. Growing up, my family would always overuse the sayings "blood is thicker than water" and "family first". They also told me that what i want is super important, and that i should never let anyone tell me i cant do something. That i can do anything i put my mind to. So i guess you can say that my family has led me to believe that family and individual desires are just as equally important. So that's why in my mind neither one is of more importance compared to the other. They are seen as one in my eyes.

Anythings Possible In the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave

The American dream can have many different interpretations. To someone who doesn't live in our country the definition of the American dream may just simply be to live in America and have an opportunity at a better life. To someone that lives in america, the american dream may be defined as having a well paying job, supporting a family and living life without struggles. the American dream is probably something everybody wants, especially to immigrants living in a country where they dont get much freedom, and living conditions are very poor. we, as Americans, are very fortunate to live in a country like ours. i can honestly say i wouldn't want to live anywhere else but here. My american dream is to live life to the fullest, graduate high school, go to college, graduate college, go to school to become a physical therapist or sports medicine doctor, graduate physical therapy school, maintain and keep a steady job and hopefully one day open and own my practice. Then hopefully throughout that whole process i will find the love of my life, my soul mate, my other half, get married and start a family when i'm financially ready. to some people that may sound like a complicated process and a very hard thing to do in times like ours, especially with the economy and the way it is right now, but im not intimidated, im determined to live out my american dream. to me, anythings possible in the land of the free and the home of the brave. (:
